Wow wow wow Sara!! So many truths here, so many struggles to feel satisfied but remain ambitious. And seeing those rates attached to stories never ceases to shock me, even though I’m in the same mix! I guess seeing them lined up like this was jarring. Either way, I hope you see that you took a big chance ten years ago and have had so many incredible experiences. Barely scraping by isn’t the ideal outcome by any stretch but I try to remember all the wild things we’ve seen and done as a result of the job. But sometimes wild and unforgettable just aren’t what we actually need long term. 💙
This is absolutely my favorite post ... I'm awed by all you have done (and how little you've been paid!). Reading your posts is like sitting chatting with you. Love them! Yay you!!!
I just subscribed for a year of you, cause i like your courage in doing what you did to explore and travel and write.
In terms of your current status, I know you need more money and want/need more lucrative writing gigs. And you deserve them and i hope you get them.
Meanwhile, two things.
1) i am a psychotherapist and the wisest line i heard in my 35 yeear career is this: "When you gorow up in the kind of home they write books about, what you are learning deep iin your bones is that life is always elsewhere."
I don't know your story, but that truth applies to anyone basically, given our proclivity ofr envy and the essence of capitalism
2) do you know the blog THIS WEEK PAUL LIKES by Paul Kix. You will love him.
Thanks so much for reading, and for your support, Bob! I do know and subscribe to Paul's newsletter. You're right — he's excellent and his advice is invaluable.

So true. Hard to place value on some of the incredible experiences and people met along the way. Definitely don’t take any of that for granted!
